Practical and theoretical consideration in choosing sensor efficiently

When you need a sensor for your system, you will have many choices available on the market with various ranges of price and specification. Choosing the right sensor is crucial for the optimum, efficient, and high performance of your system. The specific needs of technical requirements, operational characteristics, also the environment where your sensor will be installed must be considered. You also have a limitation of budget, therefore choose the sensor wisely according to the needs. Maintenance and technical support from the manufacturer and the distributor are also important to ensure long-term operation and maintenance.

Following Consideration should be taken:

Range of measurement.

Make sure that you get accurate data of maximum and minimum values that need to be measured. Better to add safety factors for your range.

Resolution

The resolution’s smallest possible changing reading unit can be detected by the sensor.

Working Temperature

You must know the environment of the sensor, the minimum temperature, and the maximum possible temperature. Make sure the range of temperature is wider than the needs.

The output of the sensor

Check the interface of the device which will be connected, such as Datalogger, PC, and Controller. The available input for the device must be available on the sensor output.

Method of measurement

Collect information about the environment where your sensor will be installed. The available space, environment risk, technical precondition, and specific requirements.

IP Protection

Ingress protection (IP) is used to rate the degree of protection or sealing effectiveness in electrical enclosures against the intrusion of objects, water, dust, or accidental contact. Make sure you choose the right choice according to the environmental risk where your sensor will be located.

Budget

Make sure the price is within the allocated budget. If after evaluation based on the above explanation you need more than allocated, consider adding the budget.

After-sales and technical support

Make sure the sensor has adequate technical support and good after-sales service to support your operation and maintenance in the future.
